Feeling depressed after watching Avatar? You're not the only one.
I'm here going to tell you a bit about my experience with Avatar, and how I was affected. I know a lot of people are thinking the same as me, therefore I wanted to tell them that they're not alone.
So, I watched avatar about half-a-week ago. I had a very emotional experience while watching, kind of 'feeling home' at Pandora. It was all like a dream, a perfect world, a utopia. When I then got out of the theater, I started thinking. Suddenly, I was feeling depressed. Depressed and curious. I wanted to live on Pandora, this perfect world, as a Na'vi, in harmony with mother Nature. Of course, this wasn't even remotely possible, therefore I got a bit depressed.
Some days later, after I got some distance from the movie, I started thinking. The type of thinking that mostly is sub-conscious. You know that you're thinking about something, something bothering your brain which you cannot get rid of. Suddenly, something with this world seemed wrong. Why are we not caring about our nature? How have we been distanced from nature like we have? Is it possible to make the planet Earth somewhat like Pandora?
The day after I watched the movie, I googled after "Avatar" and "depression". I found this thread in a forum, which was full of people telling each other about the same feeling that I had. The thread in this forum was highly popular. I guess that about 100 people have written there and confessed that they had been depressed from seeing Avatar. The feeling was so mutual that it started to look like a group-therapy session. One of those writing gave this feeling the name "The Pandora-effect".
The thread is located here. It is now closed, but I can assure you, it is worth taking a look at. There are some really great tips there on how to get over this depression.
I can also recommend you to join the community at http://avatar-forums.com.
You are not the only one depressed from a movie.
